Charles McCanna, M.D.

Dr. Charles McCanna’s medical interests include cataract surgery, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and comprehensive eye care. He provides a complete range of eye care services from medical to laser to surgical interventions. 

Dr. McCanna was raised in Madison, Wisconsin and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Wisconsin in Biology and French. Following this, he moved to New York City and taught high school biology in the Bronx. He prides himself on helping patients understand their disease processes and creating treatment plans that optimize the desires of every patient.

He received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and went on to complete his internship at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. 

Dr. McCanna completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the State University of New York - Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He served as Chief Resident his senior year and received the Ophthalmology Resident of the Year Award at Kings County Hospital. During his final year of residency, he received the E. Clifford Lazzaro Resident Educator of the Year Award.

In October of 2019, he became board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. McCanna is also a current member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. McCanna is ecstatic to be practicing in his home state of Wisconsin. He comes from a long line of ophthalmologists - his father and grandfather practiced ophthalmology in the state. His uncle continues to practice in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He feels honored to serve the Milwaukee community and strives to provide patient-centered, informative care to all. 

When not in clinic or the operating room, Dr. McCanna enjoys running, cycling, cross-country skiing, travel, playing guitar, and spending time with his wife and three children.
